“Such division never seen before”: Mamata Banerjee attacks EC, BJP over transfers

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday launched a strong attack on the Election Commission of India and the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging unprecedented “division and interference” in the state’s administration following the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. Addressing an election rally in Narayangarh, she claimed that such large-scale disruptions had never been witnessed before.

Banerjee alleged that experienced officers were being removed arbitrarily, leading to administrative instability. She further claimed that officials were being evaluated based on their perceived political affiliations, particularly links to the RSS or BJP, and warned that such actions would ultimately be answered by voters in the elections.

Raising concerns over the ongoing voter list revision, the Chief Minister alleged that there was a deliberate attempt to remove names of tribal and minority communities from electoral rolls. She asserted, however, that such measures would not influence the final electoral outcome and that the electorate would respond decisively.

Responding to political criticism from the opposition, Banerjee also hit back at recent allegations raised by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that accountability should begin at the highest levels of leadership. She highlighted state welfare schemes such as Yuvashree, Kanyashree, and Rupashree, while also warning party workers against internal dissent, emphasising that discipline and grassroots connection would determine future opportunities.
